Abstract

                  This paper aims to shed light on the contribution of the theory of reading in teaching literary texts through the Competency-Based Approach. This theory enables the reader to become free, and active during the reading process as it calls for a transition from a relationship that is between the writer and text to one between the text and the reader. And this is consistent with the Competency-Based Approach that gave the learner freedom to express his opinion and rely on himself in the search for knowledge without relying on his teacher; hence, he becomes far from stereotyped reading and is near to openness to multiple readings.
