The current research aims to uncover the role of AI-powered Assistants and Automated Writing Corrective Feedback (AWCF) in fostering EFL learners’ engagement in writing. Large Language Models (LLMs) have increased learners’ performance in writing by offering unprecedented support including generating ideas and providing corrective feedback. It is hypothesized that AI assistants and Automated Writing Corrective Feedback increase learners’ writing engagement. To test the hypothesis, this research was conducted through the quantitative descriptive method by administering a five-point Likert scale questionnaire to 150 third-year students enrolled in the Department of English at 8 May 1945 University-Guelma (Algeria). The results revealed that AI-powered assistants have substantially raised learners’ engagement in writing. However, there is a potential risk of overreliance on AI applications, which threatens academic integrity and undermines learners’ critical thinking and creativity.

L'utilisation des blogs dans l'enseignement de l'écrit : attitudes des enseignants de l'École Normale Supérieure de Constantine (ENSC)

Results reveal that most teachers are not so familiar with the recent technological advancements (such as the web 2.0) nor are they keen on weblog use in teaching. They are, however, relatively aware of some of the benefits of this technology and are willing to incorporate modern tools in their teaching.

Enquête sur les perceptions des étudiants concernant les stratégies d'enseignement du vocabulaire

Despite being one of the pillars of learning any language, lexical knowledge has always been a challenge for foreign language learners. The present study seeks to uncover the attitudes of first year students of English towards implicit and explicit vocabulary learning strategies and to identify the challenges encountered when learning English vocabulary. The study mainly relies on a questionnaire taken by a selected sample of 46 first year students at the Department of English, Constantine 1 University during the academic year 2022/2023. The results reveal that the participants have positive attitudes towards explicit and implicit vocabulary teaching strategies. Participants mentioned some difficulties when learning new words and provided their strategies to learn them. Concerning the explicit strategy, only a few of the respondents are familiar with the branch of etymology as a vocabulary teaching strategy while almost 94% of them are not. As for the implicit strategy, most of the participants displayed poor inferencing skills despite their appreciation of context clue tasks.

Relier perceptions et performance : reconnaissance des métaphores et rappel du vocabulaire par les futurs enseignants d'anglais langue étrangère à travers la poésie

This study focuses on examining the alignment between EFL teacher trainees perceived and actual competence in metaphor recognition and vocabulary recall through poetry within British and American Literature subject matter at Ecole Normale Supérieure of Constantine (ENSC), Algeria. It seeks to understand how 73 third year EFL teacher-trainees at ENSC perceive the pedagogical role of poetry, how they evaluate their own metaphorical and lexical abilities, explore their capacity in creating and explaining metaphors, and test whether their perceptions mirror their real performance. The research follows a convergent mixed method approach in which both qualitative and quantitative data have been collected through a semi structured questionnaire and a performance based test. The questionnaire results revealed that the majority of participants showed a positive attitude towards poetry and they reported that studying it has improved their vocabulary recall. Besides, they claimed that their metaphorical competence is average to good. Furthermore, the findings of the test implied that the most participants are good at recognizing, creating, and explaining metaphors; however, their vocabulary retention emerged as a relative area of a challenge unlike their self-reported perceptions. The significance of this study lies in bridging perceptions based and performance based assessment as it provides insights into the link between the students’ beliefs and their actual performance. The findings suggest reflective practices and pedagogical implementation that support poetry education in order to enhance teacher-trainees’ confidence and competence in teaching literature and poetry.

Des méthodes traditionnelles aux méthodes ludifiées dans l'enseignement du vocabulaire en anglais langue étrangère : une étude quasi-expérimentale en Algérie

This research is an attempt to explore the impact of the role educational games have on boosting students' vocabulary learning for second year (L2) English as foreign language learners (EFL) at Chlef University by dissecting immediate acquisition success and long term retention, as well as exploring students' perceptions and engagement levels when adopting gamified approaches. A comparison between the impact of a gamified vocabulary teaching methodology and a traditional approach was undertaken in the present quasi-experimental study involving 36 EFL students and were divided into experimental (gamified learning) and control (traditional instruction) groups. Data from pre-test, immediate and delayed post-tests, survey feedbacks and interview responses indicate that students in the experimental group outperformed those of the control group with respect to vocabulary retention (i.e., active recall), spaced repetition as well as contextual learning after gamification.

Le rôle de la recherche-action dans la promotion du développement professionnel des enseignants d'anglais langue étrangère dans l'enseignement supérieur : une étude de cas au département d'anglais de l'Université Frères Mentouri

The present research attempts to investigate the role of action research in promoting the professional development of EFL teachers in higher education, focusing on a case study of the Department of English at Constantine 1- Frères Mentouri University. The major aim is to find out how engaging in action research influences teachers’ reflective practice, instructional strategies, and professional identity, as well as the challenges they encounter in implementing it. This study is a qualitative case study which has used both a semi-structured interviews and classroom observations as data collection methods. In this study, eight university teachers of English were included. The thematic analysis found that action research improved the teachers’ ability to reflect on their work, encouraged them to use more engaging teaching techniques, while also fostering a stronger sense of professional identity and autonomy. However, the analysis of the results have also shown teachers’ experienced difficulties such as lack of time, limited support from their own institutions and insufficient training in methods of conducting research. Overall, these findings highlight the role of action research as a valuable, teacher-driven way to support professional development in higher education, and also underline the need for better policies and resources from institutions to make it work well. Additionally, this study adds to the small body of research on teacher professional development in Algeria and offers practical suggestions for building a stronger culture of reflective practice among EFL teachers.

Application des propriétés linguistiques universelles dans l'enseignement des langues : une étude comparative de l'arabe et de l'anglais

This research addresses the contemporary developments required for teaching the Arabic language in accordance with its evolving context. It starts by adopting contrastive linguistic tools as a framework for teaching and learning the Arabic language. Modern linguistic lessons, within what is known as linguistic universals, have demonstrated general linguistic facts shared among languages that can serve as successful starting points in the educational process. When teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, we build on linguistically established similarities, followed by providing foundational acquisitions. Subsequently, we introduce variations based on predetermined specific purposes. As for native Arabic speakers, it might be more beneficial to present linguistic curriculum from a contrastive perspective with the languages learners are proficient in. This enables them to develop common linguistic faculties, allowing for an approach between their second language and their native language, addressing numerous comparative questions across various linguistic models that foster proficiency and refine skills. The research aims to highlight the current linguistic need to capitalize on these contrastive linguistic concepts, teaching the Arabic language in diverse linguistic environments without divorcing it from an inevitable linguistic reality. The methodology will be descriptive, occasionally comparative, presenting various situations and models imposed by the linguistic reality in teaching Arabic from a contrastive linguistic perspective. This will be addressed in the following sections: (Introduction to Contrastive Linguistics), (Human Languages; Universalities and Linguistic Specificities), (Linguistic Commonalities in Contrastive Teaching), and the Conclusion.

This research addressed this gap by asking: How do Zinn's and Johnson's historical narratives align with or diverge from the core principles or tenets of TribalCrit? The study employed Comparative Historical Analysis (CHA) as its methodological approach to systematically examine how each text constructs the themes of material dispossession, sovereignty/self-determination, and Indigenous agency. TribalCrit worked as the theoretical framework operationalized through deductive coding which focused on colonization, policy, sovereignty, and story as theory. The AI-assisted texts analysis observed that Zinn foregrounded Indigenous resistance and critiqued state violence but at times embedded Indigenous sovereignty within broader anti-capitalist narratives. In contrast, Johnson reinforces settler sovereignty by means of erasure, civilizational and assimilationist rhetoric. The findings also revealed that even revisionist narratives seeking to challenge dominant paradigms can unintentionally replicate historical silences by not fully articulating ongoing-colonialism and Indigenous self-determination as a present-day political reality.

Methodologically, the study employs historical analysis and comparative mysticism, examining key figures such as Ibn Arabi, Al-Shushtari, St. John of the Cross, and Ramon Llull, whose works illustrate the synthesis of Sufi and Christian mystical traditions. Findings reveal that these encounters not only enriched both traditions but also laid the groundwork for contemporary interfaith dialogue, showcasing the transformative power of divine love and the potential for meaningful exchanges across faiths. Français et anglais en tandem en contexte universitaire algérien : quels effets sur la compréhension et la prise de notes chez les étudiants des filières scientifiques ?

Dans le cadre d’une réforme linguistique visant à instaurer l’anglais comme langue d’enseignement des filières scientifiques en Algérie depuis septembre 2023, cette étude examine comment le recours au français influence la compréhension des contenus scientifiques et la qualité des prises de notes chez des étudiants de deuxième année SNV, dans le cadre du module de microbiologie, à l’université de Bordj Bou Arreridj. Nous avons comparé deux formats de cours du même module « Microbiologie » : un cours intitulé «Factors influincing effectiveness of control agent » dispensé en anglais, avec un deuxième cours en tandem anglais‑français « Other physical microbiol Control Methods ». À l’issue de cette expérimentation, nous avons comparé les notes d’étudiants en fonction de leur pertinence et leur cohérence et les résultats de test de compréhension administré aux étudiants sous forme d’un QCM, pour chaque cours. Les résultats indiquent que l’usage ponctuel du français contribue de façon significative à une meilleure compréhension et prise de notes tout en réduisant la charge cognitive chez les étudiants, donc indispensable dans cette phase de transition linguistique à l’Université algérienne.

Netanyahou à l’ONU afin de comprendre comment ses choix lexicaux servent une stratégie de propagande et de polarisation. Le corpus (discours de 2012, 2014, 2023, 2024) a été examiné pour repérer les termes les plus fréquents. Il en ressort une vision manichéenne du conflit israélo-palestinien : l’entité y est présentée comme un défenseur de la paix, tandis que l’ennemi (Hamas…) est décrit comme barbare. Les procédés rhétoriques (anaphores, métaphores, analogies bibliques) renforcent cette opposition.
