The Poetic Rhythm and Its Role in Shaping the Features of the Elegiac Text: The Elegy of Malik Ibn al-Rayb as a Case Study
Abstract
The poetic rhythm, with its external and internal parts, is an important factor in highlighting the beauty of the poetic poem. It achieves artistic pleasure that affects the recipient and attracts him to respond to the goals of the poetic discourse understood by feelings and emotions that imposes on the poet to choose a specific musical rhythm that suits them. Rhythm is a process by which the poet completes
what the meanings of words cannot convey. In this research, I dealt with the rhythmic structure of the elegiac text and its prominent role in defining its features. For this purpose, I chose the elegy of Malik bin al-Rayb –which is considered one of the best and most wonderful elegies recited by the Arabs- where the poet mourned himself before death, expressed a set of sincere emotions, and chose an appropriate rhythm that left its mark on this elegy and defined its features.
