The Mechanisms of Poetic Experimentation in the Poem Memento Mori by Youssef Al-Khal

Abstract

The poem Memento Mori, by the poet Youssef Al-khal, is considered as a model in which he followed the approach of innovators, basing his modernist experience on change, creation and innovation within the framework of poetic experimentation. In this article, we seek to reveal the effectiveness of experimentation and its manifestations in the poem. We also seek to explore its mechanisms by analyzing them artistically, while extrapolating their semantic structures and revealing the aesthetic, the linguistic, the pictorial, and the rhythmic manifestations that characterize it. This is done in order to reach the position of the modernist poet, and to identify the mechanisms of his experimental and pioneering style, and the extent of its distinction by entering into the bet of experimentation and renewal.
