Abstract

After the failure of the popular resistance, Algeria witnessed a transitional phase that preceded the national movement, which was famous for the emergence of the group of educated Algerian elite, or what was called the Algerian Youth Movement, which was not a political party in itself, and did not express a specific organization or ideology; rather, it was a translation of the activities of groups and sometimes individuals who wanted to express their positions and achieve their demands through various means such as the press, associations and cultural clubs. We aim through this study to shed light on the activity and positions of the Algerian elite in the field of journalism, and how the latter contributed to defining the issues of Algerians in a period that witnessed pure French control and the almost complete exclusion of the Algerian element. Therefore, we chose a newspaper that became famous in the late nineteenth century, and we mean “Al-Haqq Newspaper” in the city of Bouna (Annaba). What are the orientations of this newspaper? What is the position of the French authorities towards it? And to what extent did it serve the Algerian cause?
