Historical Archive and the Internet

Abstract

  The present research examines the use of internet technologies to enhance access to and promote historical archives, exploiting the worldwide websites capabilities.
 It explores the potential of online indexes, digital documents, and virtual exhibitions, among others in the valuation of the archive. The study also compares the adoption  of such technologies and social networking in Arab and Western countries.
 The study reveals a significant delay in internet adoption by Arab historical archives.
Consequently, it proposes the development of an Arab strategy to modernize access to and promote these archives through the development and implementation of  improved internet-based technologies.
