Manifestations of Cultural Identity in the Novel “City Spices” by Hamid Abdelkader

Abstract

  The article is an investigation of the work of the Algerian novelist “Hamid Abdelkader” entitled “City Spices” aiming at revealing his intellectual vision that is manifested through the artistic structure of the work. The article attempts also to highlight the relationship between the narrative structure and its representation of the cultural sensitivities –that is, the cultural identity- through the narrating self and the narrated selves and through the space having the colour of this self and whose identity is shaped by its vision, taste, interests and concerns.
