Abstract

Grimas' influential semiotic theory, while adept at revealing the internal logic of narrative texts through mathematically derived concepts, has often been criticized for neglecting the crucial role of external context. This paper proposes an empirical framework to bridge this gap, moving from surface structures to deeper contextual analysis by incorporating insights from psychology and sociology. This study aims to validate the power of Grimas' theory in analysing narrative texts, and to transcend the limitations of textual analysis by integrating psychological and sociological data to enrich understanding of narrative meaning. By combining structural rigor with contextual depth, we aim to provide a more nuanced and comprehensive approach to narrative analysis, one that acknowledges the interplay between text and its surrounding environment.
