Abstract

This study aims to follow the discourses on cultural identity in the text of Abd al-Rahman Munif's ''Cities of Salt '', in light of his conflicts with the Western Other during his first presence in the region. of the Arabian Gulf, in order to reveal the writer's critical vision on the transition from a nomadic character to an urban one, and the transformation which is already underway. The discovery of oil and the opening up to the system of globalization through the inclusion of critical discourses in its text which revealed the deep reasons that led to the rupture of the Arab self due to globalization. The study relied on Michel Foucault's cognitive excavation method, to reveal the genealogy of cultural models and the forms they represent in literary discourse, by adopting the mechanisms of research and extrapolation produced by the post. -structuralism.
