Opposite dualities in “Darkness and Rays” by Mai Ziadeh

Abstract

The objective of this work is to shed light on the role of dichotomies from the point of view of modern criticism that represents a mechanism that deviates from the common linguistic pattern. Because of that, language is no more a set of words capable of unveiling different forms of literary beauty. Words and texts rather take on a deeper sense and more artistic and literary beauty due to the existence of conflict and attraction among different elements. Therefore, existence of dichotomies in a text is evidence of harmony and openness on different topics that meet together, enter into conflicts and enrich the text.
