Quranic discourse from a pragmatic perspective -Reading multiple conversations-
Abstract
The main concern of this research paper is the potential application of modern linguistic theories on the Quranic discourse according to pragmatics relying on Paul Grice 1975 co-operative principle which contains four maxims: quantity, quality, relevance, and manner. Using these maxims, the study applies a multi-conversational analysis of what is said, and what is meant on samples of Quranic chapters such as Merriam, El Kahf, Al Aaraff, Youcef.
