The manifestation of cultural figures in contemporary Algerian poetry
Abstract
Traditional figures represent both the main basis in the contemporary poet’s mechanisms and a means of expressing it. The Algerian poet is aware of their symbolism and new meanings both in terms of his own experiences and that of other poets.
Traditional figures occupy a considerable position in the contemporary Algerian poetic record, revealing the poet’s awareness and culture. Such figures were miscellaneous, i. e, they include several characters: the ideal one having specific features such as patience, sacrifice or love; positive or negative characters; balanced and anxious ones; each has its own evoking field.
What should be noted here is that we have noticed the domination of the cultural figure, led by the literary due to the poet’s culture and memorization of various poems. The use of the cultural figure takes two forms: mere mention or reference to it through description of some aspects of its life; but some poems taking into account the cultural figure, achieved what can be considered as composed textual overlap, giving a singular quality to the poetic discourse, buttressing it with diverse meanings and various symbols.
