Recomposition of urban territories in Algeria

The processes of recomposition of urban territories in Algeria are marked by an intense urban dynamic born from changes in spaces and society. Like the large Algerian cities, Annaba, the field of analysis for this research, carries within it all the contradictions of a state development policy, centralized and very proactive. The recomposition of urban territories takes place against a backdrop of competition and confrontation between the State and certain categories of populations. At the center of this competition, access to urban land. As a result, the Algerian city ended up developing two types of town planning: the town planning of the city to be shown and the town planning of the ignored city. In Annaba, more than 30% of the housing in peripheral municipalities is considered irregular. Overwhelmed, public authorities have ceded ground to informal spatial practices which have continued to grow, to the point where they have become commonplace. However, the trivialization of everything informal (informal housing, informal activities, informal urban transport) has ended up disorganizing the city. Dual and fragmented, the Algerian city has become difficult to manage.
