The Significance of Irony in Contemporary Algerian Poetry

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the significance of irony in contemporary Algerian poetry and how it is employed as an aesthetic and expressive tool to reveal human and social contradictions. The research employs a descriptive-analytical methodology, examining selected texts by Algerian poets and analyzing the patterns and contexts of irony within poetic structures. The main research questions are: What types of irony prevail in contemporary Algerian poetry? How does this irony reflect the poet’s perception of the world? And what is its effect on creating surprise and enjoyment for the reader? The study concludes that irony—especially verbal irony—is a pivotal tool in shaping and enriching the modern Algerian poetic scene.
