The relationship of the Shakespearean sonnet to the Andalusian muwashah
Abstract
Sonnets are one type of Shakespeare’s creative works, in addition to his famous plays. It has been said that if the poet wrote only sonnets, he would have sat on the throne of the world literature. The sonnet is a beautiful poetic art with an artistic style that is closer to the Andalusian Muashah and the colloquial Arabic literature. Hence, many researchers believed that Al-Muashahis is the origin of a sonnet and that Arabic literature gave the writer more than a character in Othello, it gave him a sonnet.
