The Poetics of Space in Camara Laye Novel ‘The Dark Child’

This study is based on a systematic approach to the novel ‘The Dark Child’ by Camara Laye, through revealing the literary elements of this African narrative text. The novelist deals with the place not only as geography, but because it carries psychological, social and ideological loads. This is done without neglecting the language because it is an important tool in formulating the artwork and making it more aesthetic. Based on this perception, the space in the novel ‘The Dark Child’ by Camara Laye has taken multiple dimensions from psychological space, to social space, to cultural space, according to a special poetic structure. This is done in order for the writer to present an integrated vision that African childhood suffers greatly from a sense of fragmentation and a sense of alienation.
