Abstract

According to Saint Augustine, knowledge is a transition from the top to bottom.  This is thanks to the divine light and flux, but before that, it is the movement of man and his desire to know the higher being. It is a transition from the bottom to the top with asceticism and Sufism in aspiration for eternal happiness. This perception represented a basis adopted by ‘Augustine’ in determining the nature of knowledge, especially when he confronted the skeptical views of the supporters of the new academy.  Therefore, in the view of this philosopher, we should not lose hope in knowing the truth, and in arriving at the most obvious and clear knowledge, which is not subject to any doubt or alteration.  In  this,  Augustine  responds  to  academics,  that we can know and  perceive  the real,  while  ignoring  the  possibility  and  the  semi-real.
