Comparison between Stoic logic and Aristotelian logic (From the perspective of contemporary philosophers)

Abstract

We will devote this article to talking about a topic related to the issue of the difference between Aristotelian logic and Stoic logic from the point of view of contemporary philosophy, and then search for the basic characteristics by which we can distinguish between the two logics. The first observation relates to the difference between Aristotelian logic and Stoic logic. As for Aristotle, his logic is related to predicates and is the logic of concepts, while Stoic logic is related to the logic of propositions. The second observation is the general common elements between Aristotelian logic and Stoic logic from a philosophical, metaphysical, and even ontological point of view. The central problem of this article is determined in determining the epistemological meaning of the difference that exists between Aristotelian logic and Stoic logic from the point of view of contemporary Arab thinkers, and from the point of view of contemporary Western philosophers. Addressing further the difference between Aristotelian logic and Stoic logic in terms of the basic elements of each, whether through contemporary viewpoints; Arab or Western?
