Using folk tales In the novel “The Year of Conception” by Mustafa Natour

Abstract

In his novel, The Year of the Rope, Algerian novelist Mustafa Nattour creates  an amazing narrative atmosphere dealing with the time of the Beys in Algeria, which the narrator projects onto the world of the minstrel Bouguerra producing thus an interlacing of the folktale with the nouveau roman. The author worked on the transformation of the oral tale into a narrative frame and texture while still using the elements of traditional story telling.  The author’s technique revives the folktales and its narrative ways in the Algerian modern novel.
