Peace and religions: A reading of Muhammad Arkoun’s article: Hypotheses for other religious thinking

Abstract

In all religions, we find the values ​​of tolerance, understanding and equality; however, history and actual experience prove the opposite. Several wars were caused by religious apologia, and the dialectic on typically religious problems, either between various religions: the conflict between Jews and Muslims, the Crusades, or between supporters of the same religion: the Shi'ites and the Sounaas, Catholics and Protestants. All these events opened discussions about the true role of religion; Is it a source of peace, love, or wars and battles? Arkoun discusses this subject in his article, in a profound way, emphasizing the relationship between peace and religions, with a new, more objective vision , far from any idealism.
